Amia Megumi Yokoyama is a multimedia artist who works with animation, video, sculpture, and installation. She uses digital and traditional animation, organic and synthetic materials to create hybrid figures and otherworldly environments where she explores themes of authenticity, fetish, and synthesizes personal mythology in post-human landscapes. Through spaces of fantasy and sparkling moments of poetic access she creates works not invested in sense-making or cohesive narrative, but in partiality, in delivering a story in pieces, leaving a trail of potential. A process of actualizing. A space called love. She lust after something real by breaking down systems of desire, control, and authenticity. Life comes together regardless of limitations, within fantasy, within ecstatic states of change, within algorithms of the computer brain, as if together we were masters of material and digital manipulation. Processes and ideations that disrupts imperious and industrial thought streams that try to tell us where we come from and how to name our thing called body. Amia graduated from CalArts in 2017 for Experimental Animation, and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, Vermont Studio Center, and Flux Factory. She is represented by In Lieu Gallery in Los Angeles and has shown her work in galleries, the internet, and spaces around the world.
