Xavier McFarlin (b. 1994, Landstuhl, Germany) Through video, photography, sculpture, and painting, McFarlin draws upon his multicultural background to interrogate the complexity of potential futures from the perspective of otherworldly characters. Returning to Texas at the age of 18 after coming of age in Okinawa, Japan - McFarlin began making art as a way to examine his queer black/latinx identity. McFarlin currently lives and works an hour north of the Mexican border in Marfa, TX. This project utilizes repurposed t-shirts which have undergone a dying process and branded with one of his characters in sharp contrast to the existing typography and iconography. Each t-shirt is hand-painted and one-of-a-kind specifically for an individual shopping experience.
