Saint Ouen Beret
Softer
Made from up-cycled fabric scraps, some of which are hand dyed. Hand-woven using amish knot technique. Hand wash alone, in cold water and lay flat to dry, to avoid warping and pulling in the woven structure.
Because they are woven from fabric, the sizing is fairly versatile; the weave has a lot of give. Size varies with each hat due to the intuitive process of production.
Designed by Liz Quezada-Lee based in Los Angeles. Liz makes visual and performance art, both of which heavily involve the use of textiles, often activated by the body. During quarantine she began using any excess material from her art production, to make an Amish rug to pass the time. After flubbing the stitch increase, her rug took on the shape of a hat. From there she began to utilize her previous “mistake”, to sculpt and experiment with the form. Each hat is handmade from this intuitive process, resulting in a completely unique personality from one hat, to the next; a wearable soft sculpture.
